MUSIC REVIEW OF THE DAY: BILL DURST - GOOD GOOD LOVIN

Stratford, Ontario's blustery blues guitar whiz Durst has decades of experience, dating back to the 1970's national faves Thundermug. For fun, check out the group's hit, Africa.

Durst's current group is basically a continuation of that fellowship, featuring the band's original singer, Joe DeAngelis on bass, and '90's-era drummer Corey Thompson. Durst's career since 2000 has been all blues, the rollicking, rocking kind. He puts a lot of fun into his tunes, from the energetic guitar work to the good time lyrics.

The title cut is Z.Z. Top-style stomper, which explodes into a major lead after some heavy-duty crunch-filled verses. Got Love moves a little more to the rock side, with a big hook catching us in the chorus. The guitar stays king right across the album, with lots of Durst's slide driving solos as well. It only calms down at the end, with the lovely sign-off tune, I Regret To Say ("I cannot play my guitar today"). He doesn't mean it though, thanks goodness. Durst's at a blazing peak with this one.
